What is an API key?
An API key is an application programming interface, used to authenticate a user, developer, or calling program to an API. HubSpot uses API Keys to authenticate custom integrations within the HubSpot CRM.
Many custom HubSpot integrations have been built using API keys. As of 30th November 2022, these will no longer work and need to be moved to Private Apps.
What is a Private App?
Private Apps provide enhanced security and control over your integrations and account data. You can use Private Apps to access more specific data within your HubSpot account, with the functionality available to authorise what each app can request or change within your account.
What kinds of integrations need to be updated?
Anyone tbat previously developed on HubSpot and utilised API Keys will now be required to migrate existing integrations from using API Key authentication to using Private Apps instead.
